Forest Academy is a home school outdoor enrichment program for children ages 3-8 years and a caregiver (younger siblings are also welcome). It runs in a seasonal session on Wednesdays with Miss Chelsea, with the summer session running July 1 - August 19. Program will run 10am - 1pm at the Pratt Preserve in Canton with the occasional field trip.
A loose schedule will look as follows:
10am arrive and free play
10:15-11:15 am lesson of the day
11:15-11:45am snack
11:45-1pm hike
Our goal is to build a community of like minded, outdoorsy families who love to learn, explore, play and create!
Snack Time - We will be preparing and enjoying a snack each week all together. Students will be responsible for cutting, mixing, mashing, whatever our snack may require. They will also be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. We will have a no single use plastic policy so all plates/cups/utensils will need to be cleaned after snack time. Snacks will be whole food based. No outside snacks are allowed.
Lesson of the Day - Miss Sam, Miss. Chelsea, parents of students, along with local artists, craftsmen, biologists, business owners, etc. will come to the academy each week to do a lesson on their skills. This does NOT have to be nature related but will be encouraged to abide by our environmentally friendly goals. Parents who teach will not have to pay for class that week or any associated costs with their lesson.
Cost: students aged 3 and up - $320
For any younger siblings, you have the option to pay for them or not. If you choose to pay, they will be treated like any other student - IE will be involved in snack, activities, experiments, crafts, etc. If you choose not to pay, they will just be along for the ride. There may be a fee for siblings for field trips.
All accepted Forest Academy Families will also be required to become 'members' of the Canton Land Trust. This is $50 annually. There will be a link in the acceptance email to fill out.
